Linda Parker ‘Woodbine Willie’

October 21 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

£7.50

The Wantage Literary Festival (formally the Wantage ‘not just Betjeman’ Literary Festival) is back this year with a whole new name and look!

The line-up this year is fabulous and we are excited to have a few events taking place in the Museum.

Linda Parker ‘Woodbine Willie’

Named ‘Woodbine Willie’ due to his work of taking cigarettes and bibles to front-line troops, Linda Parker’s book explores the life of Studdert Kennedy, an Anglican priest who volunteered to work as a Chaplain in the first world war. Unlike other Chaplains, ‘Willie’ ventured into No Man’s land to comfort the dying and retrieve the dead. Linda will be reading some of his poignant poetry that conveys the brutality and futility of war.

Tickets £7.50 available from the Museum or online here
All children under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
